How To Maximize Your FUOYE Screening Points (UTME 60 + O'Level 30 + Sittings 10) — The Honest Breakdown

Stop me if you've heard this before: "I scored 230 in JAMB, but FUOYE still didn't admit me." — and you're left confused, angry, blaming the system.

Here's what nobody told you: FUOYE does not run a Post-UTME exam. Unlike UNILAG, UI, OAU and most others, there's no second test you can "cram for". FUOYE uses a fixed screening formula — and if you understand it, you can squeeze every last point out of it.

Let me break the formula down the way a senior should have explained it to you on Day 1.

The formula (memorize this)

Your FUOYE screening aggregate = UTME points (max 60) + O'Level points (max 30) + Sitting points (max 10) = 100

That's it. No essay. No oral. No "Post-UTME prep". Just three numbers about you, added together, ranked against everybody else who applied for the same course.

1. UTME Points (out of 60) — the biggest chunk

Formula: (Your UTME score ÷ 400) × 60

Quick reference:

• UTME 160 → 24 pts
• UTME 180 → 27 pts
• UTME 200 → 30 pts
• UTME 220 → 33 pts
• UTME 240 → 36 pts
• UTME 260 → 39 pts
• UTME 280 → 42 pts
• UTME 300 → 45 pts
• UTME 320 → 48 pts

Notice how slowly the points climb. The jump from 160 to 200 only gives you 6 points. The jump from 200 to 240 gives you another 6. That's why O'Level and sittings matter so much — they're easier to control.

If you already wrote UTME, this number is fixed. Move on to the parts you can still influence.

2. O'Level Points (out of 30) — where most students lose silently

FUOYE counts your best 5 credits in relevant subjects, scored like this:

• A1 = 6 pts
• B2 = 5 pts
• B3 = 4 pts
• C4 = 3 pts
• C5 = 2 pts
• C6 = 1 pt

Maximum: 5 subjects × 6 pts = 30 pts

Worked example — Candidate A vs Candidate B, both UTME 220:

Candidate A''s O'Level:

• English C6 (1)
• Maths C5 (2)
• Physics C6 (1)
• Chemistry C5 (2)
• Biology C6 (1)
• Total: 7 pts

Candidate B''s O'Level:

• English B3 (4)
• Maths A1 (6)
• Physics B2 (5)
• Chemistry B3 (4)
• Biology A1 (6)
• Total: 25 pts

That's an 18-point gap between two people with the same UTME. 18 points is the difference between getting in and not getting in. This is why your O'Level matters more than you think.

3. Sitting Points (out of 10) — the silent killer

• 1 sitting (you got all 5 credits in one WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) = 10 pts
• 2 sittings (you combined results from 2 exams) = 6 pts

That's a 4-point penalty for using 2 sittings. Most students don't realise that even combining one A1 from a second sitting costs them 4 points outright.

If you have 2 sittings, that's fine — just make sure your best 5 credits are stacked.

The full picture — real worked examples

Example 1 — Aspirant for Computer Science

• UTME: 215 → 32.25 pts
• O'Level: B3 English (4), B2 Maths (5), B3 Physics (4), C4 Chemistry (3), B3 Biology (4) = 20 pts
• 1 sitting → 10 pts
• Aggregate = 62.25/100 — solid for Computer Science (usually needs ~60+)

Example 2 — Aspirant for Software Engineering

• UTME: 245 → 36.75 pts
• O'Level: A1 English (6), A1 Maths (6), A1 Physics (6), B2 Chemistry (5), A1 Further Maths (6) = 29 pts
• 1 sitting → 10 pts
• Aggregate = 75.75/100 — Software Engineering is competitive (~70+). Comfortable.

Example 3 — Aspirant for Mass Communication

• UTME: 195 → 29.25 pts
• O'Level: B3 English (4), C4 Maths (3), B2 Literature (5), C5 Govt (2), B3 CRS (4) = 18 pts
• 2 sittings → 6 pts
• Aggregate = 53.25/100 — borderline for Mass Comm (~55+). Risky but not dead.

What you can still do to push your aggregate up

You can't unwrite UTME, but you can:

1. Re-sit O'Level papers where you got C5/C6. Even moving a C6 (1 pt) to a B3 (4 pts) gives you 3 free points. Three Cs upgraded = 9 points. That's the difference between Sociology and Mass Comm.
2. Replace any "non-relevant" subject in your 5 with a stronger relevant one. FUOYE only counts the relevant 5. A B2 in CRS may not help you if your course doesn't accept CRS — but a B3 in Economics will.
3. Consolidate to 1 sitting if you can. If you only have 2–3 needed credits in your old WAEC, write GCE this November and reach 5 in one sitting. You gain 4 points instantly.
4. Don't waste energy preparing for a Post-UTME exam that doesn't exist. I see candidates buying "FUOYE Post-UTME past questions" online. There are no Post-UTME past questions for FUOYE because there is no Post-UTME. Save your money. Buy data and re-do JAMB CBT past questions if you'll be re-sitting UTME.

Common mistakes I see every year

• Counting wrong subjects. Your 5 must be from your course's required combination. A B2 in Economics doesn't help an Engineering aspirant.
• Assuming "I'll be fine." People score 200 and assume admission is automatic. With weak O'Level, 200 isn't enough.
• Believing fake "agents" who promise admission for N300k. FUOYE admission cannot be bought. Anyone who says otherwise is a thief.
• Not checking catchment. If you're from Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Kogi or Kwara, you get a small bump on ties. If you're not — your aggregate must stand on its own.

Q: My English is C5. Does FUOYE accept it? A: For most courses, yes — C6 in English is the minimum. But it costs you (1 pt vs A1''s 6 pts).

Q: Can NECO and WAEC be mixed? A: Yes, that's the definition of 2 sittings. You lose 4 sitting points but you can stack your best grades from both.

Q: I have NABTEB. Does FUOYE accept it? A: Yes, NABTEB is recognised. Same scoring scale.
