Scored Below Your Dream School? Here Is Exactly How To Change Institution To FUOYE (2026)

Plenty of you are in my DM asking the same thing: "Tobix, my UTME is 165, my first choice wants 250. Can I still come to FUOYE?"
Short answer — Yes. Long answer — only if you move fast and do it correctly. Let me walk you through it the way I'd walk a younger sibling.
Who actually needs to do Change of Institution?
- You picked UNILAG, UI, OAU, UNN, ABU, etc. as first choice and your UTME score is below their bar.
- You did not pick FUOYE at all but now you realise FUOYE has the course you actually want, at a saner cut-off.
- You picked FUOYE but the wrong course, and your screening aggregate won't carry that course.
- Your first choice already screened you and didn't admit you.
If any of these is you, this guide is for you.
Before you start — confirm you actually qualify
Do not pay JAMB N2,500+ for change of institution only to find out FUOYE rejects you on a technicality. Confirm these first:
- JAMB UTME score ≥ 160 (the new 2026 national minimum we just got on Monday).
- 5 O'Level credits in relevant subjects in not more than 2 sittings — English and Maths included for most courses.
- Your O'Level subjects match FUOYE's combination for the new course. (Eg: Software Engineering needs Maths + Physics + any 2 from Chemistry/Biology/Economics/Geography.)
- Run your screening aggregate honestly before paying. — it will tell you in 30 seconds whether you have a real shot or you're wasting N2,500.
If your aggregate is below 50/100, don't change to a high-demand course. Pick something realistic.
Step-by-step: the actual process
Step 1. Log into your JAMB profile at portal.jamb.gov.ng with the email + password you used for UTME registration. If you forgot, do Forgot Password — don't go to a cyber cafe to "fix it" for N5k. That's a scam.
Step 2. On your dashboard, click Profile → Transactions → Pay for Change of Institution / Course. JAMB charges roughly N2,500 – N3,500 for change of institution (the fee changes year to year — check the portal for the live figure).
Step 3. Pay via Remita, debit card, or bank. Keep the receipt and reference number. Screenshot it. Email it to yourself.
Step 4. Wait 10–30 minutes for the payment to reflect. Refresh your profile. The Change of Institution form will now be unlocked.
Step 5. Fill the form carefully:
- New first choice: Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE)
- New course: the one you actually qualify for based on your screening aggregate (don't be greedy)
- Catchment-area indicator: if you're from Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Kogi or Kwara, that ticks for you automatically by state of origin
Step 6. Submit. Print the slip. Save the PDF. Done on JAMB's side.
Step 7 — the step people forget. Go straight to FUOYE's screening portal (fuoye.edu.ng → Admission → 2026 Screening) and register there too. Changing on JAMB alone does not put you in FUOYE's system. You must complete FUOYE's own screening registration after.
Things that will mess you up
- Don't change to a course you don't qualify for by O'Level. FUOYE will silently reject you and you'll waste the money.
- Don't change to Medicine, Nursing, Law, Software Engineering, Pharmacy if your UTME is below 200. The aggregate won't carry it. I've watched too many people cry over this.
- Don't pay any "agent" to do change of institution for you. It's a self-service portal. You can do it from your phone in 15 minutes. Agents who charge N15k–N20k are running a polite scam.
- Don't change twice. JAMB allows it, but each one is another payment, and FUOYE only sees your most recent choice.
Real-talk on which FUOYE courses are realistic to change into
- UTME 160–179: Education courses, Agriculture courses, History, Religious Studies, some Library Science. Honestly comfortable here.
- UTME 180–199: Mass Comm, Accounting, Business Admin, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, English. Solid range.
- UTME 200–219: Computer Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Industrial Chemistry, most Engineering departments at Ikole campus.
- UTME 220+: Now you can dream — Medicine, Nursing, Software Engineering, Law, Pharmacy. (Even then, screening points still decide.)
These are guides based on the last 3 admission cycles. Senate sets the official bar after screening closes.
After your change is done
- Bookmark /admission — I update FUOYE's official cut-offs there the day Senate releases them.
- Get accommodation before you see your name on the list. Rooms around Oye go from N250k to N500k in 48 hours once admission drops. Verified rooms here, no landlord wahala.
- Drop your new UTME aggregate in the replies below — I'll look at it personally and tell you if your new course choice is sensible.
FAQs
Q: How long does JAMB take to process the change? A: Usually instant on the JAMB side. FUOYE adopts new candidates within 24–72 hours.
Q: Can I change my course inside FUOYE without changing institution? A: Yes — Change of Course is a separate, cheaper payment on the same JAMB portal. Same Step 2, just pick Course instead of Institution.
Q: My state is not in FUOYE's catchment. Will I be rejected? A: No. Catchment helps slightly on aggregate ties — it doesn't disqualify anyone. Plenty of FUOYE students are from outside the 5 catchment states.
Q: Is there a deadline? A: JAMB usually closes the change window 2–6 weeks after the policy meeting. Don't gamble — do it this week.
